Earlier, the ICDS workers used to protest for the release of wages and now with the government terminating their services, they are out on roads seeking reinstatement while the Government has been stating that they had no appointment orders and were appointed through the backdoor. While we welcome the statement made by the Government on their “appointment” we have not so far seen any action against those who were basically, as per the Government, responsible for appointing these helpers through the backdoor. It has been once again the poor helpers who have been made to suffer as they were already. There has not been any change in the ground situation, rather their issues have aggravated further. These helpers are currently demanding reinstatement are also seeking action against those field functionaries who appointed them. The Government has to answer as to in what capacity did those officers appoint these helpers, and now that they have been appointed through the wrong means, has the Govt initiated any action against such officers, or is it the poor helper who is all over again going to face the music? The move is entirely arbitrary and is sheer injustice with scores of such workers. There is a need for identifying these officers who appointed them and the Government should take stern action against these officers for doing what is illegal and at the same time, deceiving the gullible workers. At the same time, the Government needs to compensate these helpers who have been working in the department for more than 15 years. They need to be adjusted and those who are due for retirement must be given monetary benefits.
