Srinagar, Oct 14: Looking at the enthusiasm of the local villagers the Indian Army organised a Volleyball Tournament named MMK Volleyball Premier League at Vill Manchattar.
A total of 08 teams registered for the tournament, which were divided into 2 pools of 4 teams each. The tournament commenced with its first league match on 9th Oct. The quarterfinals of the same have been conducted on 10th Oct and top 4 teams that qualified for the semifinals. It all added up to 2 teams from Khanbal reaching the finals
The final was held on Wednesday and saw a huge footfall on the venue. The match was a thriller as it took all 5 sets to proclaim the winner. In the end ‘Khanbal-A’ team was victorious in winning the volleyball cup.
The finalist were handed a trophy each and a catchy cash prizes, T-shirts and sports kits. Omar Abdullah from Khanbal was declared the best player and was felicitated with a cash prize as well.
The proceedings ended with a tea party and refreshments. Volleyballs and nets were also distributed among the teams of various villages to promote the sports culture in remote villages.
