Corruption a costly shortcut

The absence of consumer courts in Jammu and Kashmir has pushed the people across the Union Territory to the wall as despite having a lot of complaints, there seems no one to address their issues that they are facing day in and day out here. There is a need for pressing the issue. The public is desperately seeking the resumption of the proceedings in cases that were lying pending, however, the absence of such forums after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 05, 2019; such processes have come to a grinding halt. There are also apprehensions about the validity of those pending cases in the new environment. As of now, there are no consumer forums functional in J&K and the customers who want resolution of their issues have got nowhere to go. The frauds that are taking the customers for a ride are openly carrying out their businesses while the gullible public is falling prey to such people. But the government does not seem to be bothered about it as the issue continues to linger. The public delegations that brought to the notice of the media that they have been cheated or taken for a ride by several business outlets here and outside J&K and that they want to drag them to the court, however, in the absence of such platforms that don’t have anywhere to go. Therefore, the government should consider taking steps in this regard to ensure that the consumer courts are functional across the Union Territory so that the common people would be able to register their complaints with regard to the cheating or fraud.
