A week has passed since the deaf members of the All Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council have been registering their protest here at Srinagar’s Press enclave, demanding free and fair elections and most importantly a member from all the districts with a motive to ensure smooth functioning of the council. The sports are the only source for the deaf members, who have been trying to shine in their careers through this council. However, the events taking place in the sports council seems that the deaf members are being pushed to the wall. As the deaf members have been staging protests from last week and pitching for the fulfilment of their demands, they have alleged that selective candidates have yet again taken part in the fresh elections held in Jammu today, which seems no one is answerable to anyone and also the voices of voiceless people have gone into deaf ears. One fails to understand why the fresh elections without their active participation have taken place. There are people who question the conduct of the elections at a time when the deaf members have some apprehensions regarding the functioning of the council. There is a need to unite all so that the ground situation would not turn ugly for the talented youngsters as the rift between the groups within the Sports Council can certainly affect its normal functioning. The concerned authorities must look into the matter at an earliest and ensure the participation of all the members and consider taking them on board as well.
