Growing population, growing challenges

The non-availability of public transport in the evening hours in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, has resulted in immense hardships to the students as well as the office-goers. However, the concerned authorities have so far acted as mute spectators for a long time, thus leaving them to lurch at large. Several media organizations have so far highlighted the plights of the common people, who have been suffering immensely due to the non-availability of the transport. Many of the students and office-goers have been forced to walk kilometres by foot to reach their destinations in the evening hours due to the non-availability of public transport. The demands for the want of public transport in the evening hours on all routes has gone louder, but not even a single statement has been made in this regard by the concerned quarters, thus pushing the local populace to the wall. One fails to understand why the concerned authorities have not been able to look into the matter and ensured redressal of their grievances. There are people who want an end to silence maintained by the concerned authorities. Therefore, in order to assist the common people, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) here must intervene in this regard and ensure that the public transport is made available for them on all the routes of Srinagar, especially in the commercial hub Lal Chowk, so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
