Srinagar, Dec 21: A three-day workshop from December 18-20 was conducted on Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Department of Pediatrics, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Principal/ Dean GMC Srinagar, Prof. Samia Rashid.
According to a statement, it is estimated that one in 160 children have ASD (WHO) and early diagnosis and intervention has been proven to be very effective in children with Autism spectrum.
The theme of the workshop was to identify and intervene these children at the earliest by the multidisciplinary team. The participants across the Valley from different rehabilitative services participated in the workshop.
Eminent faculty from the Department of Pediatrics and Psychiatry deliberated and imparted skillful knowledge to the participants.
It was under the guidance of HOD, Pediatrics, Prof. Muzafar Jan and Nodal officer Prof. Khurshid Ahmad, that such a workshop, first of its kind, was organized.
The valedictory function took place on 20th December and Mission Director NHM, Choudhary Muhammad Yasin graced the occasion, who also stressed the need for awareness and early intervention of such type of disorders.
