Ganderbal, Jan 12: Residents of the Anderwan area of Darsuma in Ganderbal district continue to suffer due to shortage of drinking water, despite government spending Rs 4.5 crore on “Water Supply Scheme” under Back to Village programme.
Residents said that the failure of the Back to Village Water Supply Scheme has resulted in severe hardships to the residents especially women who have to travel miles for clean drinking water.
“We are facing acute shortage of drinking water and are being forced to utilise contaminated water. During the harsh winter, it was very difficult to fetch drinking water from the area which is a kilometre away from our house,” said Altaf Ahmad, a local resident.
Locals alleged that the government spent Rs 4.5 crore on the back-to-village water supply scheme but to no avail as it failed to provide clean drinking water to a single village.
Locals appealed LG and DC Ganderbal to look into the matter.
