Just a few days after the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only road connecting Valley with rest of the States, has been kept closed for the Heavy Motor Vehicles following the fresh snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, the Kashmir Valley is facing acute mutton scarcity with most of the mutton dealers switching to selling chicken due to the non-availability of mutton. This shows the preparedness and the measure taken by the government after the weather advisory was issued by the local meteorological department in Jammu and Kashmir. In the advisory, the MeT had said that there is a possibility that the surface traffic would get affected due to the fresh snowfall. However, almost a week has elapsed since the fresh snowfall occurred; the authorities have suspended the highway for the HMVs due to the frequent landslides and shooting stones. But, one fails to understand how long the people here in Kashmir are supposed to face such a situation as there seems no end to these hardships as whenever the snowfall occurs, the people here are being pushed to the wall by one way or the other as the closure of the only road is leading to the shortage of the essential commodities. As the winter season still exists, the government should ensure that the adequate measures are taken well on time whenever there is a prediction for fresh snowfall so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief and the Valley would not face any kind of shortage.
