When journalism turns into trolling: Reclaiming fourth pillar of democracy (Part-II)

The new variant of Covid-19, namely Omicron has brought the health facilities across the country on toes while Jammu and Kashmir too is trying hard to prevent it from spreading and claimed to have taken adequate measures to tackle any situation. However, as the situation due to the rising number of cases have already created chaos among the masses, forcing the authorities to impose weekend lockdowns across the Union Territory, some people are put to create confusion among the people with regard to the prevailing situation. Some of the doctors have on record claimed that the new variant is a must and the government should immediately shift its focus from keeping eye on the number of cases to ensuring treatment to the people, who are in dire need. The doctors have even claimed that nobody can stop the Covid from spreading, but at least the government should be ready to tackle the situation at the hospitals in case of any emergency situation. Nonetheless, the other doctors are making contrary statements, saying that there is a misconception among people that Omicron is very mild but they must know that it is highly infectious affecting everyone and people taking it lightly can prove costly. Though Omicron is causing less severity than Delta that doesn’t mean that it can’t cause severity, the doctors here have said, but such contrary statements on the ground are creating confusion among the masses. Therefore, the government should intervene in this regard and ensure that those creating chaos are stopped from making statements in order to ensure that the people don’t face hardships.
