The specially-abled people across Jammu and Kashmir deserve the best and convenient place for their hassle free movement. However, in Kashmir, the government offices as well as the roads continue to face shortage of such facilities, leaving the physically challenged people to lurch at large. One fails to understand when and who is going to take measures for the well-being of these specially-abled people. Interestingly, for the first time in the recent past, a public convenience has come up specially for the specially-abled people at world famous Dal Lake near prominent Mughal garden, Nishat, bringing respite to these people. Nonetheless, most of the markets and places, where a brisk movement of people is witnessed on regular basis, lack such kind of facilities for the specially-abled, thus pushing them to the wall. Not only the lack of toilet facilities, but most of the other things that are meant to ease their hardships don’t exist on the ground. The lack of ground floor offices that are mandatory for these people is adding to their misery. Besides, the banks where the public deal always remains at peak, also sans the special facilities for the specially-abled people. There is a need to understand the sufferings of the specially-abled people and thus the concerned authorities should take measures and come up with more toilet facilities for such people and also ensure that they are provided with the easy ways to reach the government offices including the banks.
