There have been several instances in the last one decade when the government went ahead to demolish the illegal structures that were found to come up without any proper permission. However, there seems to be a first step towards the right direction from the government as it has decided to charge even the demolition amount from the persons who are found violating the norms. The violation of land rules have been found by the government agencies from time to in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Srinagar and all the successive regimes so far claimed to act tough against the norm violators, but a look on the ground, seems that the law disobeyers have been allowed to construct their houses, other commercial buildings by the vested interests as most of wetlands are now residential areas. There are many instances when the government took the harsh steps of demolition, but at the same time, the allegations are pouring in that in many cases, the concerned agencies are not able to demolish the buildings due to multiple reasons. The law is equal for everyone and the concerned authorities should ensure that no one is allowed to violate the norm. Besides, a fresh decision of levying charges of demolition to the norm violators is a step towards the right direction. There is a need to come up with more stringent measures and decisions against the norm violators so that the people here could witness an end to the illegal constructions.
