The Power development Department (PDD) in Kashmir has always remained in the news for its consumers, who have not paid their monthly tariff since long, thus giving huge losses to the department. Earlier, the department had been making claims to disconnect the power lines of those who are defaulters, but the steps didn’t prove fruitful as the decisions were never implemented on the ground completely. However, in yet another action, the PDD, now, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has been given instructions by its Managing Director to start a fresh drive against the defaulters and those who have not paid their tariff for the period of over three months should face disconnection of the power connection. This decision would certainly help in recovering the pending dues from the defaulters, but what needs to be done is to ensure that the drive going on from the last couple of days will continue till the goal is achieved. This is the best possible way to prevent the further losses to the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) and the realization of the pending dues from the defaulters would certainly help in enhancing the power infrastructure further in Jammu and Kashmir. There is a need to continue this drive and anyone found involved in showing lethargy in this regard must be taken to the task for the betterment of the department as well for the people, who are paying their monthly electricity tariff on time.
