Put teachers at the centre

Traffic scenario is further worsening in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar where the traffic department has started a fresh drive to lift the vehicles that are parked at non-parking zones. In one such instance, dozens of vehicles were lifted Monday from Press Enclave here including the vehicles belonging to media persons. This is the first such drive wherein the vehicles from Press colony here were lifted. The officials believe that parking vehicles at non-parking zones is further leading to the traffic mess on the roads. Such a move is appreciable as it is set to put an end to the miseries of the commuters, which they face day in and day out on the Srinagar roads. However, some of the important issues that need to be resolved include the blocking of U-turns and roads here as according to the commuters, this move is adding to their miseries and thus the steps being taken to streamline the traffic is bound to fail on the ground. One fails to understand why the people are being forced to cross kilometers for a simple U-turn. There are people who question the concerned authorities for such measures and claim that it seems there is no proper method available with the concerned agencies to bring respite from the traffic congestion on the roads. There is a need to understand that single sided measures will never bring any fruit and thus the concerned agencies should come up with comprehensive measures so that the traffic congestion or mess is put to an immediate end.
