The new rules set by the government with regard to vehicle scrappage policy have led to the anguish among the transporters here, who believe that the period fixed with regard to the commercial vehicles is against their aspirations. Most of the transporters have borrowed loans to buy the vehicles to earn bread and butter for their families and they believe that during the set timeline, they would not be able to even repay the loans and also run the affairs of their homes. Earlier, the government had fixed 25 years age for the commercial vehicles, which transporters say should be continued for the wellbeing of the transporters. In a bid to press for their demands of continuing with the 25 years age for the commercial vehicles, the transporters here have announced to go for a ‘chakka Jam’ on March 30. However, the protest is set to push the passengers to lurch at large. It could be the day when the thousands of people across the Valley would be forced to walk miles in absence of public transport. Such protests have already been witnessed in the Valley and people during these protest calls here, the people had to face immense hardships. Therefore, in order to mitigate the possible sufferings of people, government should intervene into the matter well on time so that the common people, who usually opt for the commercial vehicles, will not suffer.
