After looting of green gold by the vested interests in Jammu and Kashmir, the forests are facing one more worrisome situation—fire incidents, which are on rise in the Union Territory. As per the reports available, a total of 58 fire incidents were reported in Jammu and Kashmir in the last two weeks, which is a grave cause of concern for one and all. These incidents are mainly on rise in Jammu division where 50 such incidents were reported out of total 58. Some of these incidents are reported after the villagers’ burn grass or other things within the forests, which goes out of control for them, thus resulting in massive fire, causing damage to the trees. It is not for the first time that such incidents have taken place, but in the past too, fire incidents have been reported in woods in Jammu and Kashmir. The human population is solely dependent on these forests and with these fire incidents and green gold loot; the habitation is going to be affected to a large extent. At this juncture, there is a need to control fire incidents within the forests, besides the loot of green gold too needs to be stopped forthwith as any further leniency in this regard would affect the human population directly. There is a need to take preventive measures well on time and ensure that human life is not affected at any cost. Besides, the government as well the people in unison have to take forward the mission of planting new saplings to ensure that the atmosphere will not change.
