The events being organized to celebrate the particular day can never help in bringing respite from the situations that emerge on the ground. In one such similar instance, National Fire Service day was celebrated Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir like the other parts of the country. Nonetheless, one fails to understand how these events organized on this day would help in curbing the fire incidents that have been on rise since the last month, particularly in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The figures revealed by the government on this day are not only shocking but also worrisome at the same time. It has been revealed that 72 fire fighters of J&K Fire and Emergency Services department have laid down their lives in the line of their duties since 1962 while the recently inducted firemen have been asked to dedicate themselves for the cause their fellow men have laid down their lives and work with same determination and dedication for the safety of the people and their properties. One fails to understand what measures are being taken to ensure that these dedicated firemen while dousing the flames would prevent any harm to themselves. There are reports which indicate that the department is lacking the equipment and men as well, which add to the miseries of these firemen, thus putting their lives at risk as well. In the best way to pay tributes to the deceased firemen, there is a need to upgrade the infrastructure and also provide latest equipment to the fire fighters so that they would easily douse the flames and also the loss of lives and injuries are prevented in the future.
