The absence of adequate drinking water supply to the poor consumers have once again triggered protests in Srinagar and elsewhere as the people here have been forced to face tremendous hardships in the ongoing holy month of Ramadhan. The people across the Valley are already facing immense hardships due to the pesky power cuts, at the same time, the consumers have been pushed to the wall in several areas of Srinagar and elsewhere in the Valley where the consumers are facing acute water scarcity. In this holy month of Ramadhan, the consumers from different areas hit the streets to press for their demands. In this regard, a protest was also organized by the locals of Nai Sadak area of Habba Kadal where the women blocked the road to express their anguish over the unavailability of drinking water supply. One fails to understand why the consumers are being pushed to the wall during this holy month of Ramadhan when the government should have ensured adequate facilities to them. There has been no let up to the sufferings of people, but the government has so far failed to address the concerns of consumers, which is adding to the miseries of locals. There is a need to understand the necessary of supplying drinking water facility and electricity to the consumers, especially during the ongoing holy month of Ramadhan. The government, especially the concerned departments must look into the matter and come up with the necessary measures in this regard so that the consumers here would get adequate facilities and could simultaneously heave a sigh of relief.
