Budgam, May 6: Villagers of Haajan mohalla in Watkulu area in Budgam are complaining of being forced to live in darkness for the last several decades despite the availability of electricity in nearby areas.
Residents held a protest in their native village against the Power Development Department (PDD) and said that they have made numerous representations to successive governments for electrifying the village to no avail.
Protesters said that non-availability of electricity has cut the area from the rest of the world. “It is the age of the internet, but we can’t reap the benefits even with mobile phones,” they said.
“Despite the availability of electricity poles in the area and paying monthly electricity bills, we see no electricity. We are living in the stone age where we have to use kerosene lamps and wooden torches to light up our houses,” they added.
According to them, their village lacks developments amid the government’s claim of development.
The villagers urged the Lt Governor led administration to look into the matter so that their grievance is addressed.
