Srinagar, May 5: With the latest reshuffle ordered by the Jammu & Kashmir government in police, the number of local officers helming police districts in Kashmir Valley has reached nine.
In the reshuffle ordered by the J&K Home department, two local officers—Sheema Nabi Qasba and Shabir Nawab—have been appointed as district police chiefs in Kashmir.
According to an order issued by the Home department, Sheema Nabi Qasba, SP (Tech) CID headquarters, has been posted as SP Handwara.
Shabir Nawab, an officer of JKPS, has been posted as SP Sopore.
With this, the number of local police officers heading police districts in Kashmir has reached nine. Kashmir Valley has 13 police districts.
The locals already serving as district police heads in Kashmir are Rakesh Balwal(SSP Srinagar), Rayees Bhat(SSP Baramulla), Yougal Manhas (SSP Kupwara), Ghulam Jeelani Wani (SSP Pulwama), Shabir Nawab (SP Sopore), Tahir Saleem Khan (SSP Budgam), Muhammad Yousuf (SSP Awantipora) and Zahid Malik (SSP Bandipora).
Of these nine, three are IPS officers and six are JKPS officers.
A senior official said that local officers have been assigned key responsibilities in the police.
“Their representations at key positions is today better and even more than what it used to be during the period when elected governments were in J&K,” he said, adding that officers like Balwal and Jeelani have done a commendable job on different fronts in the past few months. (KNO)
