The Swachh Bharat Mission launched by the government in the year 2014 has seemingly failed to reach its logical conclusion as the reports coming to the fore thorough the National Health and Family Survey (NHFS) reveals that six percent of the population in Jammu and Kashmir has no access to toilet facilities. In the 21st century, when the lifestyle has become easy for the people all across the globe, there are people in the Union territory, who still don’t have toilet facilities and are being forced to attend the nature call in open. The mission Swachh Bharat was launched with an intention to ensure that every household will have accessibility to toilet facilities, but it seems that the officials have not worked enough to ensure every person is benefitted. The government has been reportedly providing some amount to the households for the construction of toilet facilities, one fails to understand why these people at the same time have been deprived of the facility, despite the strict directions passed by the government. Safe sanitation is one of the foundations of a healthy, comfortable and dignified life. Households without proper sanitation facilities have a greater risk of diseases like diarrhoea, dysentery and typhoid than households with improved sanitation facilities that are not shared with other households, the survey notes. However, amid these reports, the government must order a probe in this regard to identify the reasons behind the absence of toilet facilities to six per cent of the population here and any negligence of lymphatic attitude found anywhere should be dealt with strictly.
