Prof Nilofar Khan appointed as KU’s first woman Vice-Chancellor

Srinagar, May 19: The Jammu and Kashmir administration led by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Thursday appointed Prof Nilofer Khan as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir.
Till now, professor Khan was working in the department of Home Science.
Sinha in a communiqué has said that in exercise of the powers vested under him under Section-12 of the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act, 1969, he has appointed Khan as new VC of University of Kashmir with a tenure of three years.
“I (Manoj Sinha), Chancellor, University of Kashmir, hereby appoint Professor Nilofer Khan, Professor, Department of Home Sciences, University of Kashmir, as Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir for a period of three years with effect from the date she takes over charge, on the terms and conditions to be notified separately.”
Khan said that her focus would be to upgrade the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and NAAC accreditation for the betterment of KU and its students.
“My focus will be to upgrade our NIRF ranking and the NAAC accreditation. At present KU have A+ NAAC accreditation and now it is a challenge for me to take it to new heights and I hope we will get A++. My focus will also be to enhance the research at KU.” Notably, Prof Khan has served as HoD at department of Home Science, registrar KU and has also worked as in-charge VC of the varsity.
