The fresh promises made by the incumbent City Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu, during a press conference has given hope among the masses as the people across Srinagar, especially those living in the interiors, are facing tremendous hardships due to the potholed roads. The promise was not only made with regard to the potholed roads, but also about the rising stray dog population, which has created a fear among the masses, especially children, who don’t even bother to come out of their homes in morning and evening hours. With regard to macadamization, the incumbent City Mayor has promised that the process will be started within a month, but there is a need to identify all the places where the macadamization is mandatory as several areas across City have been left unattended for last several years and thus simultaneously adding to the miseries of commuters. Similarly, the promise has been made yet again with regard to sterilization of dogs. It has been informed that a consultative committee has been formed and immediate action will be taken. However, the Mayor has promised that if the programme, which as per him will be started soon succeeds; the people living in Srinagar will get rid of stray dog menace within six to seven years. This statement has given hope among the Srinagarities, but there is a need to start a fresh over such issues to ensure that the promises are fulfilled on the ground and the people would heave a sigh of relief.
