The government has been making tall claims about ensuring water supply to every household in Jammu and Kashmir in the next few years, but one fails to understand why the round-the-clock drinking water supply to the people is turning into a distant dream. There are localities, especially in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, who are getting water supply in morning and evening hours only while the supply remains off during the day hours, which is putting a question mark over the government claims about ensuring tap water supply to every household in the next few years. One fails to understand what the consumers are supposed to do with the taps when there is no supply during the day. There are people who allege that the government is making hollow promises, but fail to ensure better facilities to them on the ground. Some of the recent incidents and happenings are testimony to the fact that nothing has changed on the ground, but the miseries of people are still there as they are still craving for the basic facilities like Bijli, Sadak and Pani. There is a need to prove the words on the ground and ensure that every basic facility is provided to the people at an earliest. Similarly, there is a need to consider supplying round-the-clock drinking water supply to the people across the Valley so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
