One could easily gauge the shortage of transport in Srinagar and other adjacent districts as the overloading in minibuses is giving difficult time to the passengers, especially the students and employees, who use the public transport on every morning and evening hours to reach their destinations. Several images and videos have gone viral on the social media in which the passengers could be seen hanging on back of the minibuses, which is not only risking their lives, but also puts question mark over the law enforcing agencies for not ensuring traffic regulation on the ground. From the last several months, the traffic police has fined hundreds of commuters and realized a fine worth crores of rupees for violating the norms. However, a look in the minibuses is putting a question mark over the regulation on the ground as the passengers continue to face tough times and most of the people now prefer to reach their destinations by foot. One fails to understand how the transporters are allowing the passengers to stay hanging outside the vehicle, which is risking their lives and could lead to the possible unfortunate incident. The million dollar question remains: who is to be blamed if any untoward incident occurs? There is a dire need to put an end to such happenings and ensure that the lives of passengers are saved. Besides, there is a need to curb the overloading in the public transport so that the common people could heave a sigh of relief.
