The aim and motive behind celebrating world blood donor day is to create awareness among the masses about the need for safe blood donation to save precious lives. In Jammu and Kashmir, the local populace has been doing a tremendous job in saving lives by donating blood whenever they receive news about the patients who are in need of it. Some social media platforms are only working for the wellbeing of the patients and there are numerous Whatsapp groups where the information is being circulated about the patients in need of blood. Among the Whatsapp groups, the SoS group in which doctors, journalists and civil society members are participants is working hard for the treatment of the needy people. From medicines to blood, the group participants have been managing everything out of their own pocket for the needy people to play their role in saving the precious lives. However, one fails to understand why most blood donation banks in the hospitals demand an exchange blood point to save lives. One fails to understand the need of coming up with these blood donation banks. Instead of seeking to exchange blood, there is a need to conduct blood donation camps more frequently to avoid creating chaos among the attendants at a time of need. The mandatory blood exchange should be put to an immediate end so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief. Moreover, the youngsters need to come forward to create more such social media platforms to help the needy whenever needed.
