Time and again the traffic policemen have started acting against the commuters, this time for not affixing the mandatory High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on the vehicles. Some of the videos surfaced on social media in the past couple of days when the traffic policemen including the officers were seen on the ground, stopping the norm violators on the roads and seizing their vehicles. A number of vehicles have so far been seized for not obeying the government directions. Pertinently, the traffic authorities had appealed people to affix High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on the vehicles by June 15 and stated that the vehicles without HSRP shall invoke penalties under Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) 1968 including ‘suspension’ of registration certificate, seizure of the motor vehicle. The norm violations cannot be justified in any way, but there is a need to provide some relief to the commuters so that they are able to complete the mandatory procedures. However, amid the action against the norm violators, the commuters have been complaining of huge rush at the places where these HSRPs are being erected. It is obvious that the action has forced the people to visit the places for completing the mandatory HSRP. Therefore, in order to assist the commuters at this juncture, the authorities should consider extending the date to give a chance to the commuters for completing the necessary process. The people should also understand the need for affixing the HSRP, which would help in many ways, especially at a time of theft.
