From time to time, the government has been making appeals to the doctors to refrain from private practices, but continuously, the doctors are found throwing the orders to the wind, by opting to private practices persistently, causing huge dent to the motives of ensuring better treatment to the patients at the government hospitals. A fresh directive has been issued by the government, asking some of the doctors to refrain from private practice, but one fails to understand the reasons for issuing such an order against the selective doctors as a huge chunk of doctors are already found violating the norms and also no action has been taken against them so far. The biased order indicates the non-seriousness of the health department in implementing the blanket ban on the private practices of the doctors as making orders for a few only paves way for many others to continue with the private practice. Eager to serve the people is a kindness, but one needs to understand that why would the patients be forced to visit the private clinics when the similar treatment could be made available for them at the government hospitals. Therefore, in order to ensure a blanket ban on private practice in Jammu and Kashmir, the government should take immediate steps in this regard and ensure that the better treatment in the shape of availability of adequate doctors are ensured at the government-run hospitals so that the private clinic syndrome will come to an immediate end and the people could heave a sigh of relief.
