Jhelum is calling: What are we leaving behind for our future?

In the fire fighting efforts, the people, especially the owner has been appreciating the timely measures of the men from Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) department for preventing huge damage in the blaze that broke out yesterday at congested place of Lal Chowk area of Srinagar. The officials have been reiterating appeal from time to time to the locals, not to restrain the fire men from doing their job while dousing the flames anywhere. Yesterday’s incident is a glaring example that without the intervention of the locals, the fire men have been able to confine and control the blaze to the involved building only. On Friday afternoon, a local restaurant was damaged partially after the fire broke out from the first floor of the building. However, there was no major loss to the property in the incident, given the professional way, the fire men opted to douse the flames. It is unfortunate that in maximum cases, especially when the fire breaks out in residential area, the firemen are being prevented from doing their job and thus lead to the huge loss of property and even claim the human lives as well. The professional way used by the fire men yesterday should serve an example to the people across Kashmir and thus they should no more play a spoil sport while the efforts to douse the flames. There should no interference in any way during such blaze incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, so that the officials are able to ensure least loss of property and also save the precious lives as well.
