SWM to be initiated in every panchayat of district: DC Ganderbal

Ganderbal, Aug 17: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir Wednesday visited Shallabugh where he chaired a joint meeting of district officers and Panchayat body to discuss the plan for launch of Solid Waste Management (SWM) in Panchayat Shallabugh.
The meeting was attended by Vice-Chairperson DDC Ganderbal, Bilal Ahmad, CPO Irfan Giri, ACP, Bilqees Jan, ACD Dr Bashir Ahmad, DFO Sindh Forest Division, Owais Farooq, Sarpanch, panches, Lambardar besides senior citizens of the area.
During the meeting brief discussion was held on various aspects of SWM Plan including waste collection from households, identification for dumping site, segregation process, by laws, capital money, constitution of various committees, technical support, treatment of grey water, cleaning of canals and others for creating Solid Waste Management system in Shallabugh Panchayat.
The DC sought suggestions from all stakeholders to accomplish the task in an institutionalized manner.
Highlighting the benefits of SWM, the DC said that initially a dedicated Solid Waste Management plan will be initiated in Panchayat Shallabugh to develop it as the role model in respect of sanitation and cleanliness as envisaged in Swachh Bharat Mission and informed that this model will be introduced in every Panchayat in the district in coming days.
He further said that it is our collective and moral responsibility to make our villages clean and urged the local Panchayat body to put in personal efforts to motivate people to contribute towards making the mission a success.
Vice-Chairperson DDC and other members of Panchayat body complimented the District Administration for initiating the setting up of the waste management system for the Panchayat and assured that each household shall actively participate in making Shallabugh a Zero Waste Panchayat.
During the meeting, it was decided that local Panchayat shall impart necessary guidance/training to volunteers as well as the manpower hired under the scheme to make waste disposal an income generating activity.
It was also decided that the Panchayat body will charge a nominal amount as collection charges from each household in due consideration of locals and the waste so collected shall be recycled and disposed-off in a scientific manner.
