Kulgam, Sep 15: Road from Hallan to Manzgam in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district is in a dilapidated condition, causing inconvenience to commuters travelling on the stretch.
Locals said that in absence of repairs, potholes had developed on a large stretch of the road.
“It is difficult to travel on the road,” said a local Ghulam Rasool. “People suffer during the harsh winters. Sometimes we have to carry the dead body on shoulders from Manzgam to Hallan as the road remains non motorable”, he said, adding that private transporters suspended cab service on the road in the face of the dilapidated condition of the road.
“The road was constructed in 2005 and was later macadamized in 2008 by PMGSY,” he said.
Locals urged Deputy Commissioner Kulgam and the concerned department to macadamise the road for the convenience of the people.
“A DPR has also been submitted by the PWD (R&B) department under Development of Tourism Village (Adventure/Sports) program from Manzgam to Chirrenbal for a total Length of 9 km (including an additional length of 5km’s from Hallen to Chirrenbal) to the competent authority for approval and sanction,” said a PMGSY Executive Engineer.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, said a DPR of Rs 5 crore has been made for Hallan-Manzgam- Chirrenbal road. “We are expecting the work for the road will be started soon”, he said.
