Revised tariff must put end to power woes

In yet another instance, the government has come up with another revised list of monthly electricity tariff for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, which is expected to recover the losses of the department to some extent. The revised list of electricity tariff is not new, but after such a decision is taken, there is a need to ensure that the people, especially in the Valley, would get uninterrupted power supply this winter. The power woes have always been landing the consumers in trouble during winters as the erratic supply in the chilly weather conditions bring miseries to the people despite the government making tall claims about the round-the-clock electricity to the consumers in Kashmir. In the past several years, the government assured the people about the uninterrupted power supply, but there has been no change in the supply as the people continue to face immense hardships due to the erratic power schedule. One fails to understand why the concerned department despite augmenting the infrastructure failed to ensure adequate electricity to the people. As the government has hiked the monthly power tariff to the consumers across Jammu and Kashmir, it is hoped that the department will play its crucial role at this juncture to bring respite to the people and ensure that the electricity is provided without any interruption so that the people would feel pleased to pay the extra amounts as monthly tariff and their woes would come to an end at least for the winters when the temperature plummets and settle below freezing point at every single place in the Union Territory.
