Anantnag, Nov 2: A village in Bijbehara area of Anantnag is facing immense problems because of lack of potable water.
Residents of Doonipora village in Bijbehara said that despite living near the national highway, they are yet to get a drinking water facility.
“We are being deprived of the basic necessity at a time when people in other parts of the world enjoy all modern facilities. Thousands of residents are made to suffer on a daily basis,” Bilal Ahmad, a local resident said.
“Aren’t we humans and don’t we deserve to get the basic facility like water,” he said, adding that despite repeated pleas by the villagers to the concerned department, authorities have failed to address the issue.
Another local Feroz Ahmad said they are forced to drink contaminated water from a stream due to which children and elderly people often fall ill.
Villagers said that the officials from the PHE have been promising them of getting their problem redressed to no avail.
According to them, they highlighted the problem during the back to village programme but their demand has not been addressed so far.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps in providing potable drinking water to the locals.
