Ganderbal, Nov 19: Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday claimed to have solved an ATM card fraud case within hours in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
A police spokesman in a statement said that on 16-11-2022, Police Station Ganderbal received a written complaint from one Nasreen Ul Nissa, wife of Khaleel Beigh of Banglore India (Tourist) alleging that she lost her ATM Card at an unknown place and as a result Rs 70,000 (Seventy Thousand Rupees only) have been illegally withdrawn from her account.
The accused fraudulently procured her ATM Card and withdrew cash using it illegally at some ATM outlets, the statement said.
On the directions of SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar, a special team was constituted under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Ganderbal Gh Hassan led by SHO PS Ganderbal Insp Tariq Ahmad.
“During the course of investigation, after hectic efforts and with the help of CCTV footage it came to the surface that the accused procured the ATM card at Petrol Pump Ganderbal and used it illegally to withdraw cash from various ATM units,” police said. Pertinently, the accused has been arrested and disclosed his identity as Danish Rashid Bhat, son of Abdul Rashid Bhat of Darhuma Tangmarg. “The said accused confessed to have committed the crime and on his disclosure an amount of Rs 70,000 (Seventy Thousand Rupees only) have been recovered from his possession.”
In this regard, a case under FIR number 318/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Ganderbal and further investigation has been taken up, police said.
Meanwhile, people applauded the swift action of Ganderbal Police for nabbing the culprit and solving the fraud and cheating case in the matter of hours. “Any such illegal action by any person shall be taken seriously and legal action will be initiated against the culprits in future also,” police said.
