Modern technology and easy access to gadgets is not only the boon for the people, but it has come with the bane as well. The availability of the modern gadgets has not only eased the communication and other works of the people, but it’s a fact that the gadgets have ruined several lives, indicating that the excess use of the devices can prove detrimental to the health of the masses. There are several studies available when people were seen blaming the electronic gadgets like mobile phones, television and other things for affecting the health of their kids. Even the health experts have also from time to time warned the people about excessive use of the gadgets. However, according to the University of Otago, New Zealand, the researchers’ follow-up data from the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study (known as the Dunedin Study) investigated how television viewing in childhood was related to the risk of having a substance use disorder or disordered gambling in adulthood. Dr Helena McAnally, the study’s author has claimed that “Excessive TV viewing during leisure time between the ages of 5 and 15 may contribute to the development of later disorders.” Such studies are pointing towards the responsibility of the parents to ensure that their children are not addicted to television. Moreover, the other gadgets are also problematic for the children and thus the parents should play a pivotal role in educating their children and ensure that their mental health is not affected.
