There are several roads and lanes that need to be widened in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Srinagar, the summer capital of the Union Territory. However, some roads, that are already congested, remain occupied by the street vendors throughout the day, which add to the miseries of the people, especially the commuters, who face tremendous hardships while plying through the roads. In the busiest Maharaja Bazar area of Srinagar, the commuters had to face tremendous hardships everyday as the congested road remains completely occupied by the vegetable, fruits sellers while the shopkeepers also occupy the roads by erecting their stalls outside the shops. It has become a hectic process to move or ply in the area as the officials concerned have failed to take appropriate measures in this regard, leaving people to suffer. One fails to understand how the already congested road is being allowed to be occupied by the authorities. The concerned authorities should identify all such congested areas and roads so that it is ensured that the street vendors and others are not allowed to further congest it so that the people could heave a sigh of relief. A massive drive against such happening is the need of the hour and all the stakeholders should be taken on board so that such happenings are put to an immediate end at an earliest.
