Amidst the concerns raised by certain sections of the society, the figures revealed by the government itself has indicated how the administration has been working hard to reduce the unemployment rate in the Union Territory. As per the latest statistics, under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) launched by the government for facilitating self-employment in J&K, Rs 4209.69 crore were disbursed in 1.89 lakh loan accounts sanctioned during 2023-23 till November 25, 2022. These figure indicate that the government schemes have been playing a key role in generating the employment opportunities to the educated but unemployed youth irrespective of caste, creed and colour. Such schemes are raising high hopes among the youngsters, especially to those who have been forced to move from pillar to post by the previous successive regimes with regard to getting some opportunities to earn their livelihood. The self-employment opportunities to the youngsters are not only an assistance to start a fresh and earn bread and butter for the family, but it is a mission through which the government has been giving them a chance to showcase their skills and believe in themselves. Some of the schemes have helped many of the youngsters to provide employment to other unemployed youth as well, setting an example within the society and also paving way for others to start a fresh and move forward with determination. At this juncture, the government should come up with more such schemes so that the talented and skilful youth would get a chance and a helping hand to start their own business unit to earn their livelihood.
