The government has seemingly waged a war against the people who are persistently violating the set norms as in the past couple of days, nearly 50 mutton shops have been sealed across Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir after they were found selling meat at exorbitant rates here. Overcharging has always remained a routine complaint from the shoppers, but the mutton sellers have never opted to follow the set rules, pushing the consumers to the wall. The government has asked the mutton dealers to sell meat @Rs 535 per kg, but the people are being forced to pay Rs 650 for one kg, which is an open violation of the set rates, indicating that the mutton dealers are out to loot the general public as per their whims and wishes. It is not for the first time that the meat is being sold at exorbitant rates, but from time to time, the people have been complaining of such happenings from every nook and corner. However, one fails to understand why the authorities are selectively taking action against the mutton dealers. One wonders, why action is being delayed in other districts of Kashmir when the complaints are pouring in from almost everywhere in the Valley. There is a need to act tough against the mutton dealers across the Valley so that the violation is put to an immediate end. But, the people have to play a key role in this regard, by exposing all those mutton shopkeepers, who are found violating the norms, so that the poor people could heave a sigh of relief.
