Srinagar, Jan 9: This winter Srinagar areas have been witnessing the worst power crisis. Unscheduled power cuts have become a source of nuisance for the people.
The crisis will likely deepen once there will be snowfall. Locals from both old city and uptown areas face a lot of inconvenience due to power cuts.
Aijaz Ahmed, a local from the Mehjoor Nagar area of uptown Srinagar said that the power supply is snapped multiple times without any schedule. “We are virtually living in the Middle Ages. We hardly witness any power supply. One hour power supply on a continuous basis is really a miracle,” he added.
An elderly person Abdul Satar from old Srinagar city said that this winter power is in sleeping mode. “The area of Safa Kadal never gets uninterrupted power supply,” he said adding that the power cuts have made their life miserable.
The locals from Srinagar outskirts said that due to the unscheduled power cuts, they are unable to carry out their tasks as the electricity is snapped without any schedule.
Locals have castigated Power Development Department for the blame game. “The Department is parroting the word ‘power theft’ without supplying any power. Even those areas where smart meters have been installed and people paying hefty bills without using heating appliances don’t get uninterrupted power supply,” said a local Nazir Ahmed from Ikhrajpora Srinagar.
“We hope the authorities will look into the issue and address it without any delay,” he said. [KNT]
