The weather conditions have continued to remain wet in the past nearly one week, but what adds to the misery is the frequent closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national Highway, which is usually witnessed during winters in Kashmir whenever it rains. Seemingly nothing has changed when it comes to the national highway as the people here continue to face hardships while remaining stranded for hours together along the road. The shooting stones, especially at Panthyal area, continued to disrupt the traffic along the road in the last three consecutive days, but what needs to be understood is what measures are being taken to prevent such shooting stones that could prove fatal sometimes as well. It is not about the commuters remaining stranded only, but the people back in Kashmir including the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir—Srinagar, are being pushed to the wall as the market rates of essentials like vegetables and fruits always go up in a jiffy, leaving the consumers to lurch at large. Although some concrete measures have been taken by the government, in fact, the situation has not changed yet on the ground as the vehicles continue to remain stranded for hours together, thereby wasting the precious time of people, travelling to and from Srinagar along the national highway. For the two consecutive days, the national highway has remained closed for nearly four hours on Thursday and Friday, pushing the travellers to the wall. Therefore, the government must come up with concrete measures and ensure that the frequent traffic disruption is put to an immediate end by starting a massive renovation process that would help in reducing shooting stones and other blockades along the national highway.
