Baramulla, Jan 26: Body of the teenage girl, who had jumped into the river Jhelum in Khanpora area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on December 31, was retrieved after 26 days, officials said here on Thursday.
A police official said that after the massive efforts of locals and police, the body of the teenager girl was recovered in the Veerwan area of Baramulla, a kilometre downstream from the spot of drowning.
After conducting legal medical formalities, the body was later handed over to the family members for last rites, he said, adding that the incident was being investigated.
Notably, the girl drowned by jumping in the river Jhelum near Khanpora bridge in Baramulla on December 31,2022 and joint teams of SDRF, Police, army and locals launched a search operation to rescue the girl, but could not locate her till date.
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended in the village as soon as the news spread and hundreds thronged to participate in the last rites of the deceased.
