Support of locals imperative for Swachh Gram: DC Ganderbal

Ganderbal, Jan 28: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir Saturday took an extensive tour of Block Lar where he took stock of sanitation management.
On the occasion, BDO Lar apprised the DC regarding implementation of sanitation plan and initiatives taken for sanitation management like installation of dustbins, user charges collection status, Waste collection, transportation status of waste and Segregation sheds.
The DC inspected sanitation management in the main market of Lar and appealed shopkeepers and locals to use dustbins installed at main points and exhorted upon them to refrain from littering on roads and waterbodies saying that each of their role is important for a deeper understanding of the cleanliness ecosystem and how to improve it.
The DC complimented BDO Lar and his team for making significant progress with respect to cleanliness in block Lar.
While interacting with the sanitation committees and locals, the DC said that support of locals is imperative in making Swachh Gram a success at ground level and said that the basic element for improvement is with respect to changing mindsets and people need to change behavior with respect to cleanliness.
He directed the Sanitation Committees to ensure 100 percent door to door waste collection in their Halqas and said that fines will be imposed against those who are found littering on the roadside.
Later, the DC visited Repora where he inaugurated Solid Waste Management Shed constructed at the cost of Rs 5.80 lakh under SBM. On the occasion the DC directed BDO to explore more options of forward linkages for the segregated waste and a scientific landfill site.
During the visit the DC was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Development, Dr Bashir Ahmad, BDO Lar besides PRI members of Lar Block.
