The government has once again directed the officers to make sure that the travel time on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only road connecting Valley with rest of the country, is not exceeded for more than seven hours, but the situation at present has forced the people to remain stuck along the highway for around 38 hours, pushing them to the wall. It is ironic that the situation along Srinagar-Jammu highway continues to remain unchanged for decades now. It is unfortunate that the people are always being forced to wait for hours and sometimes days together along the route to reach their destinations. For now, the situation has remained unchanged as the stranded passengers were allowed to proceed towards their destinations after spending almost two nights along the road, leaving them to lurch at large. Although the administration claimed to have made arrangements for the stranded passengers, remaining stuck along the route is always hectic and stressful for the people. The time flies, but the road continues to give a tough time to the people. However, in the meeting, chaired by the Chief Secretary, Dr. A K Mehta yesterday, the officers were asked to reduce the travel time and ensure that the travel time will not exceed more than seven hours. It is hoped and expected that necessary measures and steps will be ensured by the government, especially the concerned authorities, which will bring some respite to the travellers and also put an end to the frequent hardships being faced by them.
