The Jammu and Kashmir administration seems in a full mood to switch to the 24×7 electricity in the Union Territory as many projects are under process at present, which are set to assist in ensuring round-the-clock electricity to the people. Recently, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha dedicated the power infrastructure projects to the people. On 27 February, 2023, The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) and Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) worth Rs 1814 Cr & Rs 2174 Cr, respectively, with PESL (PGCIL), RECPDCL & NTPC, in presence of the incumbent Lieutenant Governor for implementation of Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). The government has made it clear that the MoUs will help to strengthen the distribution infrastructure and improve electricity supply to urban and rural areas. But, the target to ensure round-the-clock electricity cannot be achieved until and unless the transmission and distribution system is strengthened. Therefore, in a bid to provide a sigh of relief to the consumers across Jammu and Kashmir, there is a need to take proper and appropriate measures for strengthening the transmission and distribution system. Moreover, the losses that the department has faced so far must be overcome so that it would help in realizing the dream and achieve the goal of ensuring round-the-clock electricity. 24×7 electricity is the need of the hour at present as the people in Jammu & Kashmir unlike the other parts of the country are being deprived of the facility and thus the apt steps must be taken in this regard to bring smiles on the faces of consumers.
