Anantnag, Mar 8: The District Administration, ICDS and Social Welfare department Wednesday jointly organized an event to celebrate International Women’s day themed ‘DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality at Dak Bungalow Anantnag.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that women have proven their mettle in every field. He said that the society must shed all gender bias and accept that women are as able as male counterparts and in many vocations and competitions women outperform men.
He said that in the modern world, several opportunities have emerged which women can leverage to make this world a better place.
He also appreciated the role played by women in Anantnag in the development of the district through their participation in plan formulation and implementation among other things.
The DC and other senior officials planted tree saplings to mark the occasion. He also felicitated women from various fields including PRIs, journalists, lawyers, sports persons etc.
Many women speakers shared their experience on various topics on the occasion. Deputy District Election Officer Nazia Hassan, DD Planning (DSEO) Karishma Kudrat, BDO Vessu Arshi Rasool among others threw light on topics like role of democratic institutions in women empowerment, role of women in development, domestic violence, health and nutrition among women and legal rights of women.
The event witnessed a massive gathering listening keenly to the speakers. PO ICDS, ACR, Dy DEO, CEO, DSWO, CDPO HQ were among others present on the occasion.
