Baramulla, Mar 18: Human Aid Society in collaboration with District Administration Baramulla and other NGOs Saturday held an impressive daylong seminar with the theme ‘Social Reforms and Our Responsibilities’ at Government Degree College Baramulla, here.
The Seminar was presided over by Ex. Chief Justice Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, Justice (Rtd.) Ali Mohammad Magray as chief guest while as Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar participated as the guest of honour.
President Municipal Council Baramulla, Principal GDC, Scholars and other Higher dignitaries also showed their enthusiastic participation in the seminar.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice (Rtd.) Ali Mohammad Magray remarked that while facing challenges in life, transformation is the need of the hour and transformation includes not only the individual’s structural change, but also structural change in the social world. He added that welfare of the society is possible only when all the stakeholders play their constructive role in their respective domains.
The chief guest while deliberating on various social evils said that it is our collective responsibility to give our part in contributing to nation building by focusing on building the careers of the youth in particular.
He also added that social injustice is a threat to the stability and sustenance of a society and every effort should be made to ensure that justice and equality prevail which ultimately leads to social reforms.
He further said smooth delivery of justice will be ensured only if the govt functionaries and other stakeholders perform their duties with open conscience and with full devotion.
Appreciating the role of NGOs, Justice Magrey said these organizations need to be strengthened as they play an important role in social justice and empowerment.
Addressing the Seminar, Dr Sehrish asserted that rights and duties go hand in hand and everyone should identify his/her role in the society.
The DC while pointing out the youth said that they have capabilities and can do wonders not only for themselves but for their families, for society, nation as well as for the country.
Dr Sehrish said that among other social evils existing in the society, the drug abuse poses a serious challenge to our society and urged different sections of the society to act vibrantly.
Enlisting various initiatives that are being taken towards youth engagement and empowerment, DC said that the young generation is more vulnerable and the need is to target this section through their constructive engagement towards productive pursuits.
President, Municipal Council Baramulla while speaking on the occasion said that social reform holds the key not only for reducing distress but also for changing personal and community/social life in ways that can provide conducive conditions for a constructive and positive approach to life, unleashing creativity and improving the world.
During the Seminar, a series of lectures were also delivered by the resource persons who deliberated on the social issues and also highlighted the role of every individual towards social reforms.
