The chaos for the first time witnessed in Jammu & Kashmir over moon-sighting led to criticism with the netizens as well as the people, claiming that the confusion on the beginning of the holy month of Ramadhan has cost a day of fasting to the people. J&K’s Grand Mufti remained firm to his decision over moon sighting last night as he claimed that there were no reports from anywhere across the Union Territory, thus appealed to people to start fasting on March 24 (Friday). However, the majority of the people didn’t pay heed to the announcement made by Grand Mufti as they started fasting from March 23, leading to chaos among the people as many people opted to accept his announcement. As the moon was visible today, there were reports that the crescent moon was sighted for the month of Ramadhan yesterday, thus putting a question mark over the credibility of the Grand Mufti’s announcement. Keeping in view, the Waqf Board of J&K talked about the confusion and sought the public response over forming the Union Territory’s own Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which is an imperative decision and must be taken forward. There is a need to come up with a proper Ruet-e-Hilal Committee at earliest and equip the committee with the latest and mandatory equipment and technology so that the chaos and confusion is put to an immediate end as soon as possible. The world is progressing and there is a need to come up with the latest techniques and methods to ensure that there is no dependency in this regard.
