Kashmir’s soul incomplete without Noon Chai

The situation has been turning from bad to worse due to the alarming rise in the drug abuse in Jammu & Kashmir as the Valley has yet again witnessed a gruesome act by a drug addict in north Kashmir’s Sopore area, leaving the whole society puzzled. In a shocking and gruesome incident, a drug addict son has allegedly murdered his 70-year-old mother in Sopore area. According to police, the youth strangulated his mother in Dangarpora village on the intervening night of Wednesday-Thursday while a manhunt was launched as soon as the crime came to light and the accused was arrested within hours. Such an act has left everyone shocked and puzzled as the gruesome act cannot be even imagined by anyone, which paints a grim picture of the present situation that arises due to the abrupt rise in drug abuse in Kashmir. Shockingly, the National Survey on Extent and Pattern of Substance Use in India conducted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment India through National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC) of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi has said that there are nearly 10 lakh drug addicts in Jammu and Kashmir. Amid the presence of a huge number of drug addicts, there is a need to come up with some concrete measures to put an end to the drug menace in J&K, which is leading to rise in the crime cases as well. The latest incident should serve an eye-opener to the society and thus everyone should play his/her role to ensure that the drug menace is eradicated from the land of Sufi saints at earliest and the crime incidents that are also increasing due to the menace are put to an immediate end.
