The flow of traffic has increased on every route in Srinagar and elsewhere in the Valley as the shoppers have started buying essentials from the markets ahead of the Muslim festival Eid-ul-Fitr. Regulating traffic movement these days is always tough as the traffic cops deployed at different places find it difficult to streamline the movement due to the increasing flow of the traffic on the roads. However, it has been observed that the street lights at many places remain shut, causing inconvenience to the commuters. One fails to understand why the traffic lights, one of the main tools to streamline the traffic, remain off during the day hours. There are people who question the need of installing such lights when it remains off at a time when the flow of the traffic increases on the roads. The traffic cops are already facing immense hardships as according to the reports the cops have complained of frequent health issues amid the ongoing works in Srinagar city. The cops are under a lot of stress while throat infection and other related things are common among them. The absence of functional traffic lights are further adding to the miseries of the men in blue, thus needs to be looked into thoroughly. There is a need to ensure all the traffic lights installed at different junctions and routes are functional so that the traffic cops would find it easy to tackle the situation during these days and the people could heave a sigh of relief.
