The revenue collection as per the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has increased in the Financial Year 2022-23 as according to the reports Rs 1,550 crore have been recovered by the department as against Rs 1,385 crore in the previous financial year. The figure shows that the KPDCL has started a process to witness an increase in the revenue collection, but the people continue to complain of erratic power supply, which is putting a question mark over the seriousness of the concerned corporation about ensuring better electricity supply to the consumers. The increase in the revenue collection is putting a responsibility on the shoulders of the concerned corporation to take concrete measures so that the number of power cuts being witnessed by the people are reduced. It has been witnessed that even during the holy month of Ramadhan, there were frequent power cuts especially in the last ten days, which has pushed the people to the wall. Despite installing smart meters, the consumers continue to complain of the erratic power supply, which indicates that the KPDCL has been more focused towards increasing the revenue rather than ensuring benefits to the people as well. It is the time when the government should not only worry about increasing the revenue, but there is a need to serve better to the people as well by reducing the power cuts and inch closer towards round-the-clock electricity to the people.
