Srinagar, May 6: The government on Saturday said that G20 3rd Tourism Working Group meeting, slated to be held in Srinagar, is an opportunity to project Jammu & Kashmir as the prime tourism destination at the global level.
Secretary Tourism, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the function here, said that G20 3rd Tourism Working Group meeting is going to be held in Srinagar, which is a great opportunity for J&K to project the Union Territory and its tourism to the whole world. “It is the best opportunity to recognize J&K at the global level as the best prime destinations of tourism in the world,” he said.
He further stated that the G20 event is being held in the last week of May and the efforts are being made to ensure that every tourist, be it a domestic or international, is facilitated in every manner. “The tourism department & the government of Jammu and Kashmir is welcoming everybody, who comes as a tourist to J&K, with open arms to have a taste of our warmth,” he said.
The Secretary Tourism also said that they have tried to diversify the tourism sector like film tourism, MICE tourism and wedding destination tourism. He also said that from the traditional destinations like Patnitop, Pahalgam and others, the focus is being laid on untouched destinations.
He said that tourism deals with everybody in the society. “More than 8 per cent GDP is being contributed by the Tourism department and thus, everybody has to contribute and take it to the global level,” he said.
